2018 was a milestone as we celebrated 75 years in the purebred industry.
I am very proud of my family and would like to share our story. My Grandpa (Bruno Feige) came to Saskatchewan from Poland in 1929, married Grandma (Irma) in 1932. Dad (John) was born in 1942 and Grandpa bought his first pure bred horned Hereford animal in 1943. In 1950 they were able to buy their own farm near Parkside Saskatchewan and created Parkvista Hereford Farm. Through the years the Grandpa, Grandma, Dad and Mom (Aldine married in 1963) worked very hard to establish a successful business. I grew up learning about hard work but there was still time for fun. Grandpa and Dad were always fair and treated everyone the way they would want to be treated. Looking back I think that is what I admire the most about them. After high school, I began to farm full time. We sold animals at many sales back then including the Regina Bull Sale, Maple Creek Bull Sale, Red Carpet Sale. We also showed extensively and had champions at Lloyd Stockade Round Up, Saskatoon Fall Fair, Agribition and Edmonton.
In 1995, I married Angie and we have been blessed with two sons Garret(1998) and Jacob (2002).
In 1998, Angie and I purchased our first Black Angus bull from 2M Ranch( Ken And Diane Megyesi) of Cudworth. We had the idea to take some of our commercial Hereford cows and breed them black. At first the idea was not received well from Grandpa and Dad but in the fall when we shipped our commercial calves and I gave them their cheques.....it wasn’t so bad!! After that we continued growing our commercial herd, competing in many commercial shows and selling prospect steers and heifers, operating as Double ‘F’ Cattle Co.
In the spring of 2007, Double ‘F’ Cattle Co. (prefix DFCC ) purchased Ivan & Joyce Eggen’s (Eggen Land & Cattle) tremendous Black Angus cow herd. Since then we have worked hard making the herd our own and presently have about 150 purebred Black Angus cows as well as 100 commercial cows .We continue to show and although we are relatively new to the Angus breed some of our top accomplishments include 2009 World Angus Forum Reserve Champion Bull, top ten finalists in Royal Bank Beef Supreme Challenge, 2016 Supreme Champion Pen of Bulls at CWA and 11 successful bull sales.
We have attended many Angus shows and events but the one that stands out in my mind is the 2009 Angus Forum in Calgary. The Forum was one of the first major events we attended as Angus breeders and it did not disappoint....our family was in awe from beginning to end...the location, cattle and people there made it a world class event.
In the fall of 2019, we decided to add to our Angus herd and purchased 15 Red Angus cows from the U2 Ranch prestigious cow herd dispersal. We feel that this will be an excellent start to our Red program. Our family is very excited about this new venture and look forward to marketing red bulls.
Finally, our boys, as well as myself, have been involved and enriched by the 4H program. Angie and I have been leaders for over 10 years and the boys have learned many new skills through the 4H program. Our boys have had the honor to receive the PA Regional Grand Champion Female and Steer banners... with steers selling as high as $5.00/lb.
The cattle industry is a very special family and we have made many new friends, had many good times and have many great memories.
We are very proud to be a fourth generation farm family and are very excited to see what the future offers.
